Bedside Manners

Choosing the perfect bedside surface can be more complicated than you think. Making the right decision depends on a lot of details, from materials to height considerations to how much storage you need. Here are my 4 pro tips for the very best nightstand selections!

1. The Right Height

The height of the bedside table is usually right at the height of the top of the mattress. Or at least within an inch or two. The idea is to have the bedside light in the perfect position so you aren’t looking right at the bright bulb when you’re in bed. Start with the bed and mattress, measure to the top of the mattress, and then find a nightstand that works for that height. Then you can choose your lamp so it is perfectly positioned to shine light where you need it!

2. Storage Selections

Do you like to read? Do you want to store eyeglasses and chargers? Do you want space for your favorite antique clock? To select the right nightstand, you want to think about how you’ll use it and what needs to be stored. There are so many great designs that offer shelves, drawers, wider surfaces, or a combination of all of the above. Choose the one that will function exactly the way you need it to!

3. Perfect Proportions

The size of the bedroom will also help you decide what type of nightstand to use. In a larger space, a bigger chest might be the perfect sidekick. Smaller bedrooms may call for a table or slimmer design. Just remember that using furniture that’s too small in a large space (or vice versa) can give your room an unbalanced look.

4. Selecting a Style

Of course the style of the room’s decor is also a big consideration for your bedside table decisions. I like to mix things up, though, like using antiques with more modern pieces in the same room. A gorgeous vintage chest, a demilune, or an ultra-sleek modern cube can all be fun and interesting nightstands!

Use these ideas to make the perfect bedside decisions for your interiors!

Warmly,
