The Natural Light
Is there anything more lovely than natural light streaming in through gorgeous windows? That was the inspiration for my Windrush project - the newest addition to my online portfolio. These clients wanted to take advantage of the gorgeous light that hit this corner of their home. And they also wanted to add more room for their expanding family of grandchildren and adult children. So we created a gourmet kitchen with a dining area and a sitting room, allowing all of the family members to enjoy time together. But let’s talk about that light…
The home has plenty of privacy on the other side of this wall, so we decided to go TALL with the windows, allowing an amazing amount of natural light to pour in each day.
In fact, the windows are so tall that they required scaffolding to install. But even without a finished room, we could tell that this space would be a showstopper!
I wanted to keep the furnishings neutral and light to keep that feeling of freshness. We brought in pops of color with the art and pillows, adding punches of orange and plum. How stunning is that vista??
Right next to the sitting area, I created a custom table that would again reflect and take advantage of all of that sun. A very large window over the kitchen sink provides even more glorious natural light.
To make the kitchen even more luminous, I had my good friends at Luxe Fine Finishes create a custom plaster finish for the range hood.
I love the way the counters and the hood react to the light. It’s a soft and subtle distribution of reflections.
Because of all that natural light, we avoided using any window treatments. Instead we let the windows do the talking in these rooms. What do you think? Do you love natural light as much as I do? Let me know in the comments section below!
