My Favorite Things: Two Types of Tile
I am crazy about tile - in the kitchen, in the bath, and I’ve even used it on the risers of stairs! It can be a background player, or the star of a room. Either way, it keeps a look clean and gorgeous! There are two types of tile that I use most in my projects: classic or bold. Let me show you what I mean!
Classic Tile
Classic tile styles are easily recognizable - they work because they are timeless! Think subway tile, marble tile, and more.
These looks are usually white or neutral, and include classic patterns that speak more softly but still draw attention.
I’m using a classic tile style in my own kitchen - you can see it as it’s being installed above! I love the mix of geometric shapes in a clean and crisp white-on-white look.
One of the most classic tile styles for a bathroom is penny tile - you can see it above on a bathroom floor. It’s in so many historic homes, but still looks modern enough for this new home!
Bold Tile
But then there are the bolder tile styles - the ones that have a brighter color or a dramatic design. I am so in love with these, too! In the bathroom tile above, I used a classic subway tile, but in a thinner profile, a gorgeous color, and a LOT of texture. It gives this bathroom a whole new personality!
In my own home, I wanted to make a BIG statement in the guest bath, so I chose a subway tile in deep dark blue. It’s the perfect modern twist!
When you use a big bold tile pattern like the one above, you want to let the rest of the room support the look so it doesn’t get too busy. So I chose a paint color for the cabinets that perfectly highlighted the blue in the tile.
In my utility room, I selected a cement tile with a fantastic dimensional pattern (above). I can’t wait to show you the finished room!
