My De-Stress Destination
When I need to get away and relax, one place always comes to mind for me - the beach. There’s something about the sand and sea, and the sound of those waves. It immediately relaxes me, and we all need that right now. Luckily for me, I can drive to most of my favorite beaches. But there is one that gives me inspiration as well as relaxation…
Alys Beach in the Florida Panhandle is a lovely planned community that makes you feel as if you have dropped onto a Greek island. It’s a walkable town with stunning architecture that takes its cue from European locales.
Alys Beach is designed with gorgeous white plaster buildings, reminding me of Greece on the outside, but Morocco in the interiors, which are filled with private courtyards and gardens. It’s a good day’s drive from Houston, but I love to gather family here, especially for the holidays.
There is no hotel, so visitors rent one of the many gorgeous homes in the town. Each one has its own fabulous details, like this artistic handrail I found while exploring the neighborhoods recently.
There are also gorgeous outdoor sculptures around every corner, creating that feeling of a European town filled with galleries and public art.
Transportation is either on foot or with cute bikes, leading you to find quiet courtyards and parks like this one.
Each turn around the town gives you more inspiration and more beautiful views. And then there’s the beach, of course. Every time I stay in this quaint town, I come away feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and full of inspiration.
What’s your go-to destressing locale? And how much do we all miss regular travel?!
Warmly,
Beth
