When a young family of four purchased a traditional 4,000-square-foot home in the River Oaks section of Houston, they had some clear goals. They wanted me to transform it into a modern, vibrant, and colorful space that showcased their passion for collecting art. Let’s take a tour of the gorgeous finished interiors!

In the formal living room, the art definitely inspired the color palette. I also balanced the straight lines from the art over the mantle with the gorgeous curved sofa from Baker and that amazing cocktail table from Theodore Alexander. The black and white photography really pops with the green on those Thayer Coggin chairs.

The dining room is directly across from the formal living space, so I wanted the color story to flow effortlessly between the two rooms. The art is from Dimmitt Contemporary Art and it looks beautiful on the wall covering from Schumacher. The buffet from Hickory Chair is one of my favorite pieces in the home.

The kitchen is a perfect combination of traditional and updated modern. A butcher block top on the island lets my clients prep and bake with the whole family, while the combination of open and solid shelves adds an airiness to the space. The stools are by David Sutherland and the shade is from Schumacher.

The breakfast nook creates a cozy little spot for family dinners or coffee in the morning.

The nearby family room is set up for entertaining and as a fantastic gathering space. The swivel chairs allow for great conversations with friends and family. And the wet bar lets my clients mix up great refreshments for their guests.

I created a lot of custom furnishings throughout the house, including the lemony swivel chairs in the study above. We went with a deep dark color in this room, which gives the space a cozy feeling.

The downstairs powder bath showcases a beautiful blue-and-white wall covering by Lindsay Cowles and an incredible lighted mirror by Lacava.

I used a custom stair runner from Holland & Sherry to complement the shape of the custom stair railing. I love how this turned out!

Just outside the primary bedroom is another beautiful work of art. Art is incredibly important to my clients. Many works were collected on their travels, but I also curated pieces from Houston’s Dimmitt Contemporary Art. Artists include Steve Alexander, Roi James, Meredith Pardue and more.

I created a cool and calm retreat in the primary bedroom, with a mix of metals and a palette of greys and blues. I love the mirrors from Ladco and the console from Global Views. They add a warmth to the cool colors.

Speaking of retreats, I designed a complete oasis in the primary bathroom with a freestanding tub and a fabulous shower with multiple showerheads.

The girl’s room was so much fun to design. It’s pink and perfect, and even has its own little collection of art.

The guest room is crisp and cool with a turquoise and green theme. The colors are so beautiful against all the white furniture. The custom bed I designed was created by J. Rodriguez Upholstery with fabric from Pindler.

The playroom is a sophisticated space with colors that are fun for kids, but chic furnishings that adults love, too. That amazing wallpaper is from Rebel Walls.
