Creating a Healthy Home

The more pandemic news that we hear each day, the more my clients want to talk about how to ensure they have a healthy home. And luckily, manufacturers are responding with materials and ideas to help create beautiful homes that have health and wellness built right into the design. Here are a few of my favorite home ideas that will ensure you’re keeping germs at bay:

1. Countertops and Surfaces

Quartz is one of the hardest stones on Earth, so it’s naturally stain-resistant, scratch-resistant, and antimicrobial. It also does not need to be resealed. Another great microbial resistant counter material is copper. It is coming into popularity as a surface material, and it looks amazing as it ages. And there is a new trend of using agate as a stone surface, which is so beautiful. It’s also a nonporous stone that resists germs, mold, and mildew, too.

2. Faucets and Fixtures

One of the coolest products out there today is the hands-free faucet, which you can get for the kitchen or the bathroom. It really keeps germs at bay in those high-traffic areas of your home. Just a wave of your hand turns them on or off! But if you like more old-school ways of doing things, copper is also a great go-to for your plumbing and hardware.

3. Handles and Hardware

While you can always purchase copper doorknobs and hardware, those are a bit pricier than most people want to spend. Instead you can get Microban seals and coverings for those surfaces. In fact, Kwikset sells knobs and handles that have Microban already applied.

4. Flooring

There are a lot of great options when it comes to “healthy” flooring. For example, bamboo has a natural anti-fungal quality. And there’s also cork, which has proven to stop bacteria in its tracks. And of course you can also seal your floors, but that will need to be done several times over the lifetime of your floors.

We all want to keep our families as safe and healthy as possible today. So use these ideas to protect your home and your family!

Warmly,

Beth
