Behind the Scenes: Plumbing Perfection

When a designer creates a vision for a project, everyone loves to talk about the paint colors, the fabrics, the shape of a sofa, and the art. But it’s the things most people find “boring” that an interior designer loves, too. Like the plumbing. What can seem like an afterthought to most people is actually important to making your home function for you! And the plumbing fixtures can be beautiful, too. So I had an amazing time selecting exactly what I wanted for my home renovation - again with the fabulous help of Corey Watts at Ferguson. Let’s look at what I chose, room by room:

Powder Room

Now there’s no way you can say the faucet I selected for my powder room is boring! That sculptural design just made my heart sing - and no, it does not have any knobs for hot and cold water! See that cool circle on the right? It’s the hot/cold valve for the faucet, although mine will be in gorgeous nickel with a tiny blue Swarovski crystal on it. Nothing boring about that!! And it will look sleek and chic with the DXV Pop Grand Rectangle sink I also selected. This sink is designed to inhibit the growth of bacteria, which is a bonus.

Kitchen

In the kitchen, I’m thrilled to finally have a pull-down faucet, which I’ve wanted forever. I chose the one from Waterstone to pair with a sink from Rohl. The Allia Fireclay Sinks have been made in the Limoges region of France for over 100 years and they have a super-strong surface. They stand up to wear and tear, which is what I need.

Master Bathroom

In the master bathroom, I wanted to create a sleek and spa-like feeling. So I chose a lavatory set again from Watermark, but this time in a more transitional design.

I went for a very modern toilet style, this one from Duravit designed by Philippe Starck. It is a rimless design, which makes it more efficient and much easier to clean.

Okay but now we get to the good stuff, the pièce de résistance - the tub. Have you ever seen such a gorgeous tub?! I cannot wait to be able to soak my cares away in this lovely design. It’s the Warndon from Victoria + Albert, and it’s constructed from one piece of volcanic limestone. I’m pairing it with floor-mounted plumbing for a seamless look.
