5 Pro Tips for Outdoor Rooms

Now that spring is here, we’re all excited about spending more time outside! Whether you have a patio, terrace, porch, or a combination of all of those, you want to welcome guests and family with spaces that are comfortable and lovely. I have 5 pro tips for creating the best outdoor rooms - let’s take a look!

1. Blend the Outdoor and Indoor Spaces

In my Cherry Hills project above, we installed large moving glass doors so that the indoor and outdoor spaces flow directly into each other. The color palette between the rooms is complementary, offering a visual balance. Even if you can only see the outdoor rooms from inside, be sure that there is a balance and harmony in what you see. It’s very jarring to walk outside and see a completely different design style or colors that clash.

2. Keep It Entertaining

There are so many new technologies for outdoor rooms, including televisions, refrigerators, sound systems and more. Now you don’t have to miss the game or your favorite streaming show when you want to sit outside. Think about how you like to entertain or live in your outdoor rooms and invest in whatever would make you happy!

3. A Room for Every Reason

When you’re designing your outdoor spaces, dream big! You can now create a room for every reason. That includes a living/seating area, a kitchen, a dining space, and even sleeping porches (they’re very popular in the South!). If you can dream it, then a professional can definitely deliver it for you. And remember that you can live in your outdoor spaces longer if you include a fireplace, outdoor heaters, or even throws.

4. Create Comfort

Just like your indoor spaces, if you don’t have comfortable seating, then no one is going to want to sit for a while. Be sure that the chairs, sofas, loveseats, and chaises that you use are not only chic but very comfortable. Today you can find the softest fabrics and the deepest cushions, so there’s no excuse for stiff or uncomfortable designs.

5. Make It Mobile

When it comes to outdoor entertaining, one of the hardest things is carrying everything outside for an al fresco meal. I love to use a bar cart that’s designed for outdoor settings! You can pile it up with everything you need and then wheel it outside. It can also act as a bar when it’s stationary.

Use these ideas to enjoy your outdoor spaces!

Happy Spring!
