4 Top Ideas for Outdoor Living
I just love summer and the art of outdoor living! Drinks are extra refreshing, food is extra delicious, and conversations are extra sparkly when it’s all al fresco. The key to successful outdoor entertaining is really no different than indoor entertaining. You need different rooms for different activities - and outdoors you just repeat the concept, setting up areas of your space for an array of functions. Here are the spaces you need!
CONVERSATION AREA
The most important area outdoors or indoors is an inviting conversation area. Somewhere where your guests can comfortably snuggle up for a glass of rosé as the sun sets, or countdown to the wee hours of the morning when the candles begin to wink out. The set-up is much the same as any living area - sofas, lounge chairs, ottomans, and side and cocktail tables, all rendered in outdoor-friendly materials and fabrics. And don’t forget plenty of pillows and throws!
DINING AREA
An outdoor dining area is also essential, especially if outdoor grilling is your jam. Like I said in the intro, food just tastes better when cooked and eaten outdoors. Maybe it’s primal, it triggers our caveman DNA. Regardless of the reason, dining outdoors is one of the true pleasures of summer. And just because we’re outside doesn’t mean we can’t also set a pretty table! So pull out your napkin rings, your fancy linens, and some of the terrific outdoor stemware and tableware available these days, and go all out! Your guests will be appreciative, I guarantee!
HOME BAR AREA
Another essential outdoor area is the bar. It gives guests a chance to interact while savoring their first cocktail of the evening. It can be as simple as a serve-yourself beverage cart... Or as elaborate as a custom built, dedicated bar, like the one above. I love that pass-through window!
POOL AREA
Of course, if you are fortunate enough to have a pool, it becomes the prime entertaining area. I love the terraced pool below because it makes the most of its lush setting, and offers sunbeds and outdoor dining options.
