4 Ideas for Out-of-the-Box Outdoor Rooms

Warm weather is finally here! If we can avoid those crazy spring storms, it’s the perfect time to start living in our outdoor rooms. No matter how large or small your outdoor spaces are, crafting those fabulous oases is one of the best ways to take advantage of sunny days and star-filled nights. And you don’t just have to put out a lounge chair or two and call it a day. You should set up your outdoor spaces so they are as comfortable and inviting as your indoor rooms! Try these 4 out-of-the-box ideas to make your al fresco living even more special.

1. Don’t Forget Fabrics!

Comfort is key, especially for your outdoor rooms. And with all of the amazing performance fabrics available, you can have pillows, throws, linens, and more that will make your spaces even more beautiful. The one thing that people seem to forget, though, is a rug. Outdoor rugs not only stand up to the weather, but they also feel good underfoot and they cut down on extra noise from concrete or brick floors.

2. Create More Dining Space

If you love to entertain, then be sure you have extra dining space for those fun outdoor parties. For a beach house I designed above, we added another dining surface to an outdoor wall of the home, supported by brackets. Then it was super-simple to just pull up some stools and voila - more seating for guests!

3. Add Secret Bluetooth Speakers

There’s nothing better than listening to your favorite music while enjoying the lovely weather. I like to hide bluetooth speakers inside of openwork tables or behind planters. That keeps your decor looking gorgeous while letting the music just be in the atmosphere!

4. Use a Mobile Bar Cart

Having a bar cart outside is a great idea on its own. But add some wheels and it becomes an indispensable way to move food and drinks from your indoor kitchen to your outdoor dining room! I put this teak version on my client’s deck and it has become one of her family’s favorite summer accessories!

Remember that you can have anything in your outdoor rooms that you do in your interiors. That includes TVs, fridges, sinks - the sky is the limit, so dream big!

Warmly,

Beth
